Art Research
Summer 2021
The United States military has hundreds of bases around the world. This research project aims to identify several of the central consequences US bases have on communities abroad and render the information through artistic interpretation. A multitude of sources, including books, journal articles, and news articles were read through in order to come to the final four components of the project. The displacement of indigenous peoples is examined through the lens of Diego Garcia with three accompanying watercolor paintings. An experimental audio based animation introduces historic environmental destruction. Additionally, an investigation of economic exploitation and military intervention in Central America with a correlating acrylic painting is presented. Lastly, sex work at camptown in Japan and South Korea are discussed along side a collage.
